Mind Your Business

Your mind is your strongest asset. It can make or break you. Think about it? When you break down crying what are you usually crying over? Something you are thinking about, right? What about when you are angry? You become angry because you are thinking about the situation. How about when you are hungry? You are hungry because you are thinking about food. Your body is telling your brain you need food which results in you thinking of food. What does food do? It strengthens your body, right? Especially when you eat healthy. Well what if we use positive thoughts to feed our mind? That will not only strengthen our minds but help us grow and conquer the world like we are meant to do.
Thinking positively can be challenging. Especially when you are someone with a mental illness. It is also challenging when the situation is challenging itself. Such as; when you have someone commenting on everything you do wrong instead of telling you things that you do right as WELL as telling you what you need to improve upon. What would go through your mind if that someone was focusing on your faults rather than your successes? I have had this happen in my early adult years. When I was given constructive criticism or told everything I was doing wrong, but they also said what I was doing right. I focused more on the negative. My mind went to the negative and I would tell myself “you are not good enough”, “you are stupid”, “you don’t belong here” and so on. My point is, I let the negative thoughts rule my mind. Because I let that happen it effected my life. I lost friends and my grades in school went down. My depression got worse and I fell into this hole of despair to the point of concern from my family and friends.
It has taken me several years to get where I am today. I had to train my mind to think positive. I had to train my mind not go directly to the negative part of the situation. I have trained my mind to think more positively. To look on the brighter side of things. To strengthen my mind. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to train your mind to be more positive. It won’t happen overnight. Yes, there are times where you will think negative. That is life. People think negatively about many things. That’s human nature. I’m not saying you will think positively all the time. I’m not saying your mind will be rainbows and unicorns. What I’m saying is you can train your mind to be more positive. I had the help of my therapists to get me to the point of seeing the “light at the end of tunnel”. There are days where I get into a deep dark hole for days or even weeks. I am STILL training my mind. I am STILL working on myself. But how you train your mind is up to you.
Your thoughts determine your future. Think positive and positive things will happen. Changing the way, you think and the way your mind works will help you have a more positive outlook on life and yourself. You need to take care of you. By starting with your mind.
